E. Speyer

Born in Argentina in 1940, educated in Denmark and the United States.
Along with his earlier professional pursuits, as a Navy pilot and museum designer and director, he constantly worked at developing his paintings

As a professional artist and former museum director, in 2010, I was asked to curate The Collins Center Institute art collection. This eclectic collection consisted of sculptures, paintings, antique books and prints. The prints on paper were from the late 1800’s through the 1920’s, and had been part of a large private collection in Austria. They had been stored in Florida without air-conditioning for many years and most appeared to be beyond salvage.

Ms. Ana Candioti , a professional art restorer, was in the US at the time and I asked her to give me her professional opinion on the feasibility of restoring the 189 prints. After a thorough study she decided that they were salvageable but that it would take the good part of six months to do so. I agreed that she should proceed to restore the prints.

Ms. Candioti set up a lab with specially designed trays to accommodate the larger prints and devices to produce hand-made paper to repair tears and holes in the damaged prints. These repairs were a perfect match for paper of the original prints, including texture and color.

Ms. Candioti also restored eight of the oil paintings in the collection which had severe flaking problems and loss of pigment. Nearly all the paintings required extensive cleaning. One of these dated back to 1640 and was remarkably improved after Ms. Candioti’s restoration.

On my recommendation, Ms. Candioti was hired to restore an important mural in an Art-Deco building on Miami Beach which she accomplished with great success.

Ms. Candioti kept careful records of the work she did on each of the prints so that the Institute would have a complete history for future reference.

All the work Ms. Candioti completed was of excellent quality, highly professional and meticulously done. The entire collection was recently sold at a very good price.

I would highly recommend Ms. Candioti for any type of art restoration project.
